Working Class Heroes Radio

Working Class Heroes began in 2018 as a narrative investigative journalism podcast exploring the lives, history, politics and culture of working class “New YorQuinos.” Our first season, Taxi Wars, documented the labor struggles of immigrant cab drivers in a changing industry as they fought the rise of uber and demanded better working conditions from the city.

In April 2020 WCHPod joined the WBAI 99.5 fm team where we will air our second season: Coronavirus and Class War Saturdays 6 pm et.

Episodes will be crafted through pre-recorded and live interviews, historical research, audience engagement and at times presented in a bilingual format. We will showcase worker struggles by highlighting their identities, experiences, interests, and working conditions.

Don’t listen to the radio? You can listen to our weekly episodes at WBAI and look for the episode on Soundcloud, iTunes App, and Google Play on Mondays by 5 pm.

Your co-hosts are Julian, Yanny, Carlos, Lea, Danny, Brenda, Emmanuel, Lupita and Mel.

Why the Working Class?

We believe that in this political moment, what we need more than ever is to relate the experience of the most resilient communities in NYC. Amidst a housing crisis, record mass incarceration, militarized policing, raids and deportations, high prices and lowering wages and longer hours, regular working people are the ones fighting for more, standing against politicians and corporations' efforts to exploit more of workers for less. New YorQinos go hard, so we are gonna rep 'em mad hard.
